Edit an Existing Phone

When needed, the information (or definition) for a phone can be edited. The Phones tool allows you change or update the phone for the following scenarios:

  • Phone information is outdated
  • A line needs updated

Editing a Phone

Edit an existing phone's information by doing the following:

  1. Click the Edit Phone task icon located on the same row of the phone to be edited.

  1. Do the following under the Phone Information section of the Edit Phone dialog to edit the phone:
  1. View the Product Type and Protocol information here. This information cannot be edited, but is useful information about the phone.
  2. Change the name of the phone by replacing the text in the Name field. It is recommended that each phone have a unique name, so there is no confusion when assigning the an agent.
  3. Change the description for the phone by replacing the text in the Description field to help identify how the phone is used or who it is used by.
  4. Click the drop-menu next to the Primary User option to change the agent whom this phone will be assigned to.
  5. View the phone's assigned Site, Department, and Billing Unit. This information cannot be changed.

  1. Do the following under the Lines section of the Edit Phone dialog to edit the phone's available lines:
  1. Click to select the line to edit, if multiple lines are available for the phone.
  2. View the phone number assigned to the phone in the Phone Number field. When this number is dialed, calls are automatically routed to this phone.

NOTE:

The Phone Number field cannot be edited. If you need to configure the phone to use a different number, see Clone an Existing Phone for additional information.

  1. Change the description for the line by updating the text in the Description field. This field can include as much information as needed.
  2. Change the name to display on a phone receiving a call from this line by updating the text in the Alerting Name field.
  3. Text entered into the Line Text Label field passes through to a target phone that uses ASCII characters instead of Unicode characters. Users commonly enter the same name that was specified in the Alerting Name field.
  4. Change the caller name to display on the target phone by updating the text in the Caller ID field.
  5. Change the name or information to display to the target phone when dialing from an external source by updating the text in the External Caller ID field.

NOTE:

If needed, edit any additional lines that are available for the phone.

  1. Click the Save button to save any changes, or click the Cancel button to cancel the operation.

A success confirmation displays in the upper right corner upon successfully saving the phone. The message disappears after a few seconds.
