An Example of Setting Custom Links

The Settings assigned to each profile includes a Launchpad tab. You can use this profile settings tab to assign custom Web links that can be used by every user or agent who is assigned the profile. Because each profile can have a different set of custom links, you can set up profiles that not only define the tasks that an agent can perform, but also provide additional resources in the form of tailored Web links.

When you edit the settings for a profile, the Launchpad tab is one of the tabs that you can use to set up the profile. Click on the Launchpad tab to make it the current tab (see the following screen capture).

In the Launchpad tab, the following columns are displayed:

  • Name - The name of the Web site to which the link is pointing.

  • URL - The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that is used to open the Web site.

  • On/Off - A decision icon that is used to either enable (the decision icon is set to "Yes") or disable (the decision icon is set to "No") the Web site.

  • Icon - The icon that will appear in the Custom Links tab located in the Launchpad (Home) page.

  • Color - The color of the icon. Using different colors makes it easier to locate a specific link.

  • SortOrder - You can click either on the upward pointing arrow to move the link higher in the list of links or on the downward pointing arrow to move the link lower in the list of links. The order in which the links are listed governs the order in which the icons (links) are displayed in the Custom Links tab, with the topmost icon displaying on the left, and the icon listed in the bottom of the list displaying on the right.

To add a custom link to the list of links in the profile, click on the Add new row button to create a new row below any existing rows in the table (see the following screen capture).

In the new custom link row, enter the following information:

  1. In the box in the Name column, enter the name of the Web site that you are adding as a custom link.

  2. In the URL column, enter the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that will be used to access the Web site. When entering the URL, make sure that there are no errors. An error in the URL will prevent the custom link from displaying the Web site.

  3. In the On/Off column, determine if you want the link to be active now or later. By default, the decision icon is set to "No" (the link is disabled). You can click on the decision icon (to set the decision icon to "Yes") to activate the custom link immediately.

  4. In the Color column, click on the gray square to display a block of colors from which you can select a color for the icon by clicking on a colored square.

  5. If you want to change the order in which the custom links are displayed in the Launchpad (Home) page, adjust the order by clicking on the upwards or downwards pointing arrows.

Notes:

  1. If, while you are editing the Launchpad settings, you notice a custom link that is no longer needed, you can click on the Trash icon that is located on the right side of each row. When you click on the Trash icon, the associated custom link is immediately removed.

  2. For information about setting or updating individual settings, see Profile Settings By Type.
