Delete a Department
If a department needs to be deleted for any reason (for example, you are combining two departments), you can easily delete an existing department. Remember that when you delete a department, you are not deleting the users who are assigned to that department.
To delete an existing department, you must be viewing the Locations page. If you are not viewing the Locations page, Working with Locations for information about displaying the Locations page.
To delete an existing department, you will be working in the Departments pane (see the following screen capture).
To delete an existing department, perform the following steps:
In the Locations page, locate the department that you want to delete. If you click anywhere in the row that contains the department, the entire row changes to a light green color. To delete the selected department, click on the Delete Department icon ( ) on the right side of the row that displays the department.
The Delete Department confirmation pop-up window opens.
Before deleting the department, you have the opportunity to move all users currently assigned to the department into a different department using the Transfer Users to drop-down list. By default, if you do nothing, the users will be transferred into the department that is in the top of the list. To transfer the users to a different department, click anywhere in the Transfer Users to box to open the menu and click on the department to which you want to transfer the users.
After selecting a department to which to transfer the users, click on the Delete button to delete the department. The department is deleted immediately and the name of the department is removed from the Departments pane. A confirmation message is displayed in the upper right corner of the page. See the following screen capture. Once deleted, you cannot recover the department.
Note: If, before clicking on the Delete button, you change your mind, you can click on the Cancel button to close the Delete Department confirmation pop-up window without deleting the department.
